I'll be honest, I haven't used Beta readers. When I was starting out I hired a freelance editor to critique my work. Even if you just send the first three chapters, it can be invaluable. Just make sure you choose someone who has worked on genres similar to yours. Be careful too, there's a lot of scammers out there. Use someone reputable. Or you can join author groups and swap your work for free critiques.
