Would you buy a murder house?

My 24th book, The Family at №1, has just been published. Yes, twenty-four. You’d think by now I’d be blasé about it, maybe even a little jaded. But honestly? Every single publication still feels like a small miracle.

Publishing has its ups and downs — one book soars, another struggles, and sometimes it feels like you’re on a rollercoaster you didn’t queue up for. That’s why I never take any of it for granted. Hitting “publish” is still equal parts exciting and terrifying, and I’m hugely grateful to every single person who buys a copy, tells a friend, or leaves a review. You’re the reason I get to do this.

After more than ten years as an author, I’ve learned that the biggest challenge isn’t writing the books (though that’s no picnic). It’s sticking with it. You never really know what’s around the corner — a bestseller list, a rejection, a surprise message from a reader who stayed up all night because they couldn’t put your book down. The unpredictability is half the joy… and half the stress.

What Keeps Me Going

What keeps me going is simple: I love entertaining people. I love crafting those twisty, “just one more chapter” stories — the kind of books I enjoy reading myself. And when readers tell me I managed to surprise them, or kept them up far later than intended, that’s when I know all the hours staring at a computer screen were worth it. My newest offering begs the question…would you buy a house where a family were murdered? It also has a mystery that is waiting to be solved. Who is trying to stop the sale?

So here we are: over ten years as a writer. The Family at №1 is officially out in the world, already flying up the charts, and hopefully onto your Kindle soon. If you enjoy dark secrets, dangerous obsessions, and a few sharp twists you won’t see coming, this one’s for you. On another note, I’m a huge audio book fan, and am thrilled with the narration. Laurence Dobiesz (of Sherlock and Highlander fame) and award winning narrator Eilidh Beaton did an amazing job. There is something very special about listening to the words you created being acted out in story form. Listen to a sample here.

And to everyone who’s been part of this journey — whether you’ve been here since book one or you’ve just stumbled across my work — thank you. Truly. Here’s to the next twist in the story.
